Two boys fishing the Little Calumet River, near the North end of Liable Road in Hammond, Indiana, find a Nike brand running shoe, approximately three and a half miles from Sherry's home. The shoe contained the remains of a human foot.
On September 4th, 1994, two children noticed something unusual sticking out of a drainage pipe that feeds into the Little Calumet River. Upon further inspection, the children discovered decomposed human remains wrapped in plastic. Because of the decomposition, police were unable to identify the victim, but were able to connect the remains to the human foot found by the boys who were fishing in July.
In an attempt to identify the victim, police turned to the public for assistance. Police released a photograph of several personal belongings found in the victim's jacket.
Soon after the article is published, Barbara Corey responded after recognizing a house key. Investigators learned, through these personal belongings, and dental records the remains belonged to Sherry Brandy.
On February 14th, 1994, Brandy had plans to visit her boyfriend in South Hammond. Sherry's mom, Barbara, last saw Sherry at approximately 7:30 p.m. before leaving for work.
Sherry never made it to her boyfriend's house, and on February 16th, 1994, Sherry's mom and dad file a missing persons report.
