In the morning hours of November 16th, of 2023, Courtney took her mom’s car without permission in St. George, Utah. Courtney later returned the car to her mom, at which point her mom warned Courtney that if she took the car again, her mom would be forced to call the police and file charges against her. Of course, Courtney apologized and promised she wouldn’t do it again. However, just a short time later, Courtney took her mom's car, along with several items from her mom's house and left, never to be seen or heard from again.
Later that day, nearly the same time Courtney's mom is reporting her vehicle stolen, Courtney was contacted in a traffic stop by the Hurricane, Utah Police Department. The officer reports Courtney was acting strange. Courtney even offered to give the officer a jewelry box for his wife. The officer concluded his traffic stop, and sent Courtney on her way.

When police looked through the found articles of clothing, which is presumed to be clothing items belonging to Courtney, they discovered partial skeletal remains. Included in their discovery were three partial bones, to include a portion of a lower human jaw bone. Those remains were later positively identified to belong to Courtney.
